WHAT IS PRE-TREATING?

Pre-Treating is the process of preparing a garment with a PT (pre-treatment) fluid eithe rmanually or with an automatic device such as the Viper. This PT process acts like a "sealer" or "primer" on the shirt just like primering drywall so the paint doesn't soak into the drywall. The PT is the primer that will allow the white ink to sit on top of the garment and not soak into the fibers of the shirt. By allowing the ink to sit on top of the garment the white ink remains bright and the colors more vivid.

Q: WHY DO I NEED TO PRE-TREAT?

A: If you do not pre-treat a garment, when you print the white ink it will soak into the shirt and not give you a good, bright, white ink. This will also affect the CMYK ink vividness too.

Q: CAN I PRE-TREAT BY HAND?

A: The answer to this is yes, but there are several issues when trying to do it by hand.

• It is not easy to get the required amount of fluid laydown evenly over the entire printed area.
• It is messy. People try to do it with a Wagner power sprayer
• It is nearly impossible to achieve a good, consistent laydown of PT Fluid which is of utmost importance for good white ink DTG printing.
• It is much slower than an automatic Pre-Treatment machine
• There is much more wasted pre-treatment fliuid when trying to do it by hand.
